Yesterday, April 15th, the IRS's free "Get My Payment" tool developed to assist Americans in receiving their economic impact payments went live! The online application allows you to check the status of your payment as well as enter their direct deposit information if the IRS does not already have it.
If you did not have direct deposit on your most recent tax return, we suggest you register as soon as possible. The sooner the IRS has that information, the sooner you can receive your payment!
If you receive a "Status Not Available" notice while using the tool, the IRS has listed the below reasons as to why that may be happening:
- If you are not eligible for a payment (see IRS.gov on who is eligible and who is not eligible);
- If you are required to file a tax return and have not filed in tax year 2018 or 2019. If you recently filed your return or provided information through Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info on IRS.gov. Your payment status will be updated when processing is completed; and
- If you are an SSA or RRB Form 1099 recipient, SSI or VA benefit recipient– the IRS is working with your agency to issue your payment; your information is not available in this app yet.
As you can imagine, there are millions of people in America trying to access this one website. If you do not get through right away, do not be discouraged. Due to high traffic on the site, the IRS is closely monitoring the site and sending users to an online "waiting room" until space on the site becomes available. The IRS has warned that the media reports that the tool has "crashed" are inaccurate.
As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to us here!
